Helldivers 2 rolled out a new patch today that added fire tornadoes and meteor showers, but it also quietly buffed and nerfed a few weapons and stratagems. Arrowhead didn't go into detail on the specifics, but fans have found that flamethrowers are suddenly more effective against chargers.
"Flamethrower can kill chargers quite fast now," one player shared on the game's subreddit, attaching a clip of them unleashing a stream of fire directly into one's face. It quickly flops to the ground as the flames engulf its armour, leaving behind little more than a giant charred bug carcass.
"I was aiming at one leg but I'm not sure if it makes any difference," they added. "I also tried to kill another charger with short bursts and let fire damage over time kill it but it took very long. Difficulty is 5, though it does not matter since the difficulty does not change the health of enemies."
Chargers have been a sore point among the community for a while now. They aren't automaton levels of terrifying, but when a group of them gang up on you, it's hard to stay on your feet. Players have been hungrily searching for a reliable method to take them down quickly, and it looks like the flamethrower might finally offer a viable solution.
However, while a healthy stream of fire is helping fan the flames against the bug horde, Arrowhead has nerfed the railgun in an incredibly controversial move that has set the community ablaze.
The community has long voiced its distaste for nerfs, asking Arrowhead to instead buff the less viable weapons so that everything is useful on the battlefield. However, the latest update has made it clear what the future holds - overpowered weapons will be brought down a notch, and the less useful gear will be improved, as with any online game.
