If you are using an Apple iPhone then pay attention and stay alert! A nasty new FluBot malware is being loaded onto iPhones by hackers. The FluBot malware operators are especially targeting the European countries with a new money-stealing campaign from country to country to push the data-stealing malware into iPhones.
Detected and reported by Cybersecurity firm Bitdefender, this malware attack uses the vicious FluBot to steal credit card information and banking credentials of the smartphone users which further clears the way for cybercriminals to attack users’ accounts and make online purchases without even letting them know. Initially, the malware was detected in Romania, but now it is spreading to most of the European countries with the same FluBot campaign that uses the smishing attack technique.
Basically, the malware spreads through a simple SMS onto your Apple iPhone. The text message usually arrives in the inbox of the user suggesting that the victim has a voicemail waiting for a new parcel which is out for delivery along with a malicious link attached to it to find out more information. And here’s the real trap! Once you click on this link, it will take you to a new webpage where the online fraudsters will ask you to download an app to gain access to the voice message or parcel delivery firm. Beware! Never download such apps. In fact, the app looks just like an official one of some reputable and famous company.
Not so difficult to guess, of course, there will be no voicemail or any delivery package information waiting for you. This is just a ruse to get you to download and install the FluBot malware on your iPhone.
