Apple TV+ prides itself on quality content that isn't afraid to look away from hard truths, which perfectly sums up its dark dramedy Physical, which returns for a second season on June 3. When its first season premiered last year, many viewers were shocked by its frank depiction of eating disorders while simultaneously charmed by star Rose Byrne's powerful performance.
Physical season 2 continues Sheila's (Byrne) journey to physical and emotional wellness, but that doesn't make the road any less bumpy. While the end of the first season saw her trade food for exercise and land herself a deal making aerobics tapes, her marriage to Danny (Rory Scovel, I Feel Pretty) is still on the rocks and the stress of family and her new job threatens to make spiral once more. Meanwhile, her best friend Greta (Dierdre Friel, New Amsterdam) is dealing with a very different kind of marital situation at home.

Screen Rant spoke to Byrne and Friel about the evolution in Sheila and Dierdre's friendship this season, and the directions in which their individual journeys take them.
Screen Rant: We are on this journey to self-empowerment with Sheila, but can you tell us where she is at the start of the season? She's experiencing success, but is it really fulfilling her?
Rose Byrne: This season really opens up, so it's a lot about a lot of the characters. The world really expands in season 2, and this really examines her slog trying to become this businesswoman. It's not overnight; she's not famous, she's not an actress or a personality. She has none of that ammunition behind her, so it's really about her taking her little cut out and going to the fair and doing the performance.
