Less than 24 hours after launching on Steam, the early access version of Hades 2 has already doubled the all-time peak concurrent player account set by the original Hades. While Supergiant Games certainly found success with its earlier titles like Bastion, Pyre, and Transistor, the studio really took off after it released the roguelike action title, Hades. Although Hades was originally an Epic Games store exclusive, it eventually launched on Steam a year later in 2019 through Early access, releasing Version 1.0 on September 17, before eventually launching across most other platforms like the Switch, PlayStation, and Xbox consoles.
Following its release, Hades quickly went on to receive universal acclaim from players and critics alike, earning countless awards and becoming a massive hit for Supergiant Games. However, many began to wonder what was next for the studio, who had established a firm track record of not developing sequels and instead changing genres for new games. As it turns out, Supergiant revealed it is breaking with tradition during the Game Awards 2022 by announcing Hades 2, a sequel to its hit game. The excitement from fans was made clear upon its release into Early Access, as a new milestone has already been broken.
Following a very successful Technical Test period, Supergiant Games launched Hades 2 into Steam Early Access on May 6 to the delight of many. While the first game certainly found its own success, Hades 2 has already crushed its all-time peak player count in a matter of hours. According to SteamDB, the stats tracking website for Steam games, Hades 2 instantly hit the trending games list after its launch, reaching a peak concurrent player count of 79,276 after only 9 hours of being available. In fact, Hades 2 has since gone on to topple that number, breaching 84,000 players early on May 7 and is likely to keep pushing that number forward.
