In Dragonflight , World of Warcraft introduced an overhauled, brand new universal upgrade system to offer a streamlined experience. Blizzard is outlining upcoming changes to the upgrade system in Guardians of the Dream to expand it and refine it even more.
The upgrade system arrived in Season 2 and the team didn't want to make any changes to PVP gearing that was working at the time to make sure that nothing was disrupted. PVP gear is now going to be included in the new upgrade system. The change is going to affect the PVE item levels on those gear pieces, but nothing else will change. PVP item levels will remain the same, as will the way you get those pieces. You won't need Honor to upgrade PVP gear anymore.
Now that most players are used to the upgrade system, they already know the core system and should be able to adapt it when they go to upgrade their PVP gear. PvP will also allow you to get Flightstones and Crests.
The team is also lengthening the Hero and Myth tracks by one level each to help address feedback about disparities between the upgrade tracks that were not doing well for lower and mid-tier players. The Myth track will not allow upgrades to 4/4 and Hero will be 6/6.
Crests, which are called Dreaming Crests in the upcoming season, get some help, starting with the change that they won’t take up extra inventory space. They will collect in the currency tab so you don't need a separate slot. In Season 3, the Crest cap gets a limit of 90 per week of each type. This should spread out upgrades and help sustain the reward system over time. You’ll also be able to start trading lower level Crests for higher level ones.
