GTA 6 Trailer Confirms It's Set In Vice City

GTA 6's reveal trailer was meant to go up today, but it was leaked. So, Rockstar pushed it out early, which is great as now we can see what it looks like without a big crypto ad plastered on top.

This first trailer confirms a few rumours, such as the Bonnie & Clyde-style protagonists, but it also reveals that yes, we're going back to Vice City. Just with fewer Hawaiian shirts this time.

The first-ever Grand Theft Auto was set in Vice City. It reappeared in the titular Vice City in 2002, but its last appearance, not counting remasters, was in 2007's Vice City Stories.

At the 41-second mark, giant letters making up the word "VICE" fill the screen, confirming without a shadow of a doubt that Rockstar is dipping its toes back into Miami waters much as GTA 4 returned to Liberty City and GTA 5 to San Andreas.

Last year, fans realised that the state of Florida doesn't exist according to a map found in GTA 5. It was discovered inside a barbershop, tucked away and seemingly unimportant, but many were confused as the new era of games had referenced Vice City before. Since it's based on Miami, surely Florida must also exist?

Many simply assumed that it was an "oversight" or a mistake, joking that the entire state had sunk underwater, but no, Rockstar was playing the long game. GTA 6 is set in the fictional state of Leonida, explaining how Vice City is back despite Florida's strange absence (even if a crocodile does waltz into a store, which is very, very Florida).

While the Everglade State has been scrubbed off the map in its entirety, Rockstar describes the new region as "the biggest, most immersive evolution of the Grand Theft Auto series yet."
