Grand Theft Auto 5 was the best-selling game across Europe in August.
That’s according to GSD data published by GamesIndustry.biz, which covers physical game sales from major markets and digital sales from most leading publishers, excluding Nintendo and 505 Games.
GTA 5 came in ahead of Star Wars Outlaws, which was the highest-charting new entry at No.2.
Ubisoft recently confirmed that the open-world Star Wars game has underperformed, and its first week sales in Europe were reportedly less than half of Star Wars Jedi: Survivor’s following its release in April 2023.
It’s worth noting that digital sales for August’s other big release, Black Myth: Wukong, aren’t available. While the game has enjoyed a blockbuster launch, the physical version charted at No.68 in Europe.
Sony’s Concord was the 13th best-selling new game in August, charting at No.347. The PlayStation maker pulled the live service title from sale and took it offline within two weeks of its release, following reports that it may have sold as few as 25,000 copies.
Console unit sales across Europe totalled 300,000 in August, which was down 42% year-over-year but up 12% compared to July. PS5 was comfortably the best-selling platform ahead of Nintendo Switch.
