Gran Turismo 7 and series creator Kazunori Yamauchi briefly talked to OverTake.GG during this weekend's World Series finals in Barcelona, Spain.
The legendary game designer and professional race driver, CEO of Polyphony Digital, revealed the success of the latest installment and particularly singled out the most recent update released last month.
We just released the Spec II update and the number of active users jumped up to double what it was before that. Gran Turismo 7 has been a success and we have more users compared to GT Sport.
We’ve been able to maintain a really high number of active users throughout the release. That’s something very unique to Gran Turismo that some other titles have not been able to see. I’ve heard that in the video game industry that’s quite rare.
The Spec II update is the largest released by Polyphony Digital since the launch of Gran Turismo 7, adding a wealth of new content and features:
The game itself is now nearing its second anniversary, having been released in March 2022. While the player base is still healthy as highlighted by Yamauchi, a PC version would definitely expand Gran Turismo 7 to a whole new community. Sadly, Yamauchi-san said last year that there was nothing to talk about in regards to a PC version, despite Sony's commitment to bring its first-party games to the platform.
