A search for the upcoming film will also include a reference to Mario's 8-bit era.

The Super Mario Bros. Movie hits theaters tomorrow, and you may be wondering if your local theater still has tickets for the film's opening weekend. If you decide to turn to Google when you begin your ticket search, there's a nifty little Easter egg waiting for you.
Along with information you expect to see while searching for «Super Mario Bros. Movie»--cast, showtimes, etc.--a small NES-era question block will appear at the top of the page next to the movie's name. Clicking on it will make a coin appear, along with the signature 8-bit coin sound, and every 100 clicks will get you a 1-Up.
This isn't the first time Google has tossed gaming-related Easter eggs onto its search pages. A search for «The Last Of Us,» for instance, will produce a red mushroom button that slowly «infects» the screen with cordyceps as you click on it, while the Google logo changed to a playable version of Pac-Man in celebration of the game's 30th anniversary.
In a more elaborate example, if you search for «text adventure,» open your browser's developer console (usually with the F11 key) and type «yes,» you can play a small Google-themed text adventure game.
The Super Mario Bros. Movie red carpet premiere took place April 1, and reactions to the Nintendo hero's theatrical adventure have been mostly positive. While some have mentioned criticisms including an «overly goofy, bare-bones plot,» many have lauded its music, humor, and multiple Easter egg references to the video games.
