Today, Elgato launched the Key Light Mini—a portable edge-lit LED panel that promises to make you look professional on any video call.
You don't have to understand how lighting works to know that a good light source improves how you look during a video chat. Regular Twitch and YouTube streamers will probably have a light panel permanently setup on their desk, or rely on a Razer Kiyo webcam with its integrated and adaptive light sensor.
Elgato already offers the Key Light to provide great lighting while sat at a desk, but that doesn't work for someone having a video chat while on the move, using a smartphone or tablet. To fill that niche, Elgato decided to shrink the Key Light, add a battery, and launched the Key Light Mini portable lighting solution.
It measures 6-by-4-inches and uses OSRAM LEDs to provide 800 lumens of bright light with a color temperature range of 2,900 to 7,000K. The panel is dimmable and includes a 4,000mAh battery that's good for two hours of lighting at full brightness, or double that at 50% brightness. A magnetic back and quarter-inch thread allow the Key Light Mini to be quickly mounted just about anywhere, and light adjustment can be carried out using the onboard controls or wirelessly using the Elgato Control Center app on Android, iOS, Windows, or macOS.
At $99.99, the Key Light Mini is half the price of the larger Key Light. Included with the portable panel is a USB-C to USB-A cable and a quick start guide. It's available now direct from Elgato or via Amazon.
