The Pokémon Company and Niantic have announced that Gigantamax Pokémon will be added to Pokémon Go later this month.
The mechanic, which first debuted in Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield, will be added to the mobile game on October 26. Previously, Dynamax Pokémon, which are larger, more powerful versions of Pokémon, were added in September.
Gigantamax Pokémon are different in design from their normal counterparts. For example, Gigantamax Pikachu is significantly wider and rounder than its normal counterpart, which many fans compare to its original design from the 90s.
Players will encounter Gigantamax Pokémon during limited-time events, starting with Venusaur, Charizard, and Blastoise. These Pokémon will be more difficult to battle than other Dynamax Pokémon, and thus Niantic recommends that the raids are encountered as part of a team, rather than solo.
The new trailer for Gigantamax Pokemon (which can be viewed above) features a score by Emmy Award-winning composer Ramin Djawadi.
“Gigantamax is larger than life and the perfect opportunity to compose this epic theme for the Pokémon GO trailer,” said Djawadi.
“We endeavored to create a theme that parallels the hero’s journey. As tensions rise in the shadows of these gargantuan Pokémon, players come together for an unforgettable experience as they overcome the impossible.”
