players are still coming to terms with the recent Gigantamax Battles but Niantic wants everyone to know that it's looking into the difficulty. The reception of Dynamax Pokémon has been mixed since the community wanted a system that was mechanically distinct from standard Raids. Players were hoping that the release of Gigantamax Pokémon would be the change they were initially hoping for and while they are more interesting, defeating them is a punishing and time-consuming affair.
Per Eurogamer, Niantic responded to complaints that the Gigantamax Pokémon Battles are too difficult, confirming that it's looking into nerfing the upcoming Gigantamax Gengar Raid that's slated to arrive this weekend. The developer confirmed that Gengar will be "" easier to defeat in comparison to the other Gigantamax Pokémon, noting that players will still need to coordinate and strategize if they want to topple the towering Ghost-type. Niantic goes on to say that it wants Gigantamax Gengar to be a meaningful challenge while ensuring that Trainers still stand a chance.
Niantic also clarified that it's increasing the catch rate for Gigantamax Gengar since many feel that it's too low for other Gigantamax Pokémon. The current rate "" the developer wanted to give players. Increasing the capture rate should have a trickle-down effect since more players will have access to a Gigantamax Pokémon which will likely make defeating other Gigantamax Raids significantly easier and less frustrating.
The question remains as to whether these adjustments will be implemented for the other Gigantamax Pokémon in the game, these being Charizard, Blastoise, and Venasaur. Niantic has said that it may consider making the Gengar changes to other Pokémon but whether or not that happens remains to be seen. One has to imagine that if the response to Gigantamax Gengar is positive, then the others will likely follow suit.
