After less than 24 hours since the launch of Fortnite Chapter 5, Season 2, Epic has already nerfed the update's big new item, the Wings of Icarus, to be less powerful.
Although this season of Fortnite isn't as game-changing as Chapter 5, Season 1 was with its introduction of multiple game modes (and Peter Griffin, of course), it still makes some interesting changes to the formula. Without a doubt, the biggest new thing in Chapter 5, Season 2 is the introduction of flying through the Wings of Icarus, which players have already used for some awesome moments.
It seems that Fortnite players might be getting too used to the power of flight, however, as Epic Games has already given the Epic item a massive nerf. As reported by reliable Fortnite insider HYPEX, a hotfix went live yesterday after less than 24 hours of the new season being active (something that's especially controversial after the massive season delay) which dramatically underpowered the item.
The hotfix notes reveal that the Wings of Icarus have now had the height requirement to perform a divebomb increased from a minuscule 6.4 metres to a whopping 80. That means that if you want to use the Wings to divebomb an enemy, you need to be much higher up in the sky than when the season first dropped.
The change does make some sense considering 6.4 metres would be pretty easy to spam when you don't have to fly all that high to activate it, but such a massive increase isn't being taken too well by fans. In the comments underneath HYPEX's post, fans have blasted Epic for taking "the best thing about the season" and making it dramatically less fun for the sake of fairness.
