For iPhone 14, Apple leaves Samsung! Here is what you will get
Ever since 2007, when the first iPhone was launched, Samsung has been providing its application processors (AP) to Apple. However, according to reports, this year Apple has ditched Samsung for the new TSMC 5G chips for its upcoming iPhone 14. The TSMC 5G chips are not only smaller in size but are also considered to be more optimized and capable of providing improved performance. With Apple enthusiasts hoping for big improvements in this year’s iPhone launch, the shift to a new processor may actually deliver on people’s expectations.
The shocking move to ditch Samsung for TSMC 5G chips was first reported by Taiwan’s Economic Daily News, which said that Apple has made all the orders for its 5G related RF (radio frequency) chips to TSMC which is going to be applied to the entire iPhone 14 lineup. “According to market analysts, the related chips will be produced using TSMC 's 6nm processors and the annual demand is expected to exceed 150,000,” the report stated.
Interestingly, according to a report by 9to5Mac, the focus of the market this year is not likely to be on upgrading the existing 5G chips. Instead, there will be an emphasis on improving the RF transceivers that strengthen the functionality of 5G and WiFi 6/6E connectivity. In simple terms, this year, instead of developing an improved 5G chip that can extend the existing bandwidth, the focus will be towards ensuring consistent speed on the present bandwidth.
The iPhone 14 series is the upcoming lineup from Apple, scheduled to launch at its usual yearly period between September and October.
