Firewall Ultra, the evolution of hit VR shooter Firewall Zero Hour, will launch for PSVR 2 on 24th August. Check out the new gameplay trailer.
Firewall Ultra is a PSVR 2 overhaul of the 2018 PSVR original, built around the same 4v4 tactical shooter experience. The main game mode, Contracts, pits two teams against each other in a best-of-three series to attack or defend a laptop filled with classified intel. Attackers will need to try and reach the laptop and decrypt intel before time expires, while defenders will use door blockers, proximity mines and more to try and defend.
The game has been upgraded to run on Unreal Engine 5, and uses the power of the PS5 to push more realistic dynamic lighting and shadows. First Contact Entertainment has also sought to take on the feedback of players of the original, adding dedicated servers to help avoid dropped network connections, looking to reduce waiting times between matches with the best-of-three format, and featuring a social lobby area and shooting range in the Safehouse to occupy you between game sessions.
As with the original, they will support and build on the game post-launch, promising new weapons and contractors, maps, and additional game modes. They’re also looking into manual reloads, which will be a pleasing addition, if they can balance it right.
Firewall Ultra will look to take advantage of everything that PSVR 2 offers, with enhanced haptic feedback via the Sense controller, headset rumble for when you take damage and feedback when you switch to night vision goggles, as well as some innovative eye-tracking features.
