New details about the upcoming open world game have been revealed, including some about iconic series villain Jabba the Hutt.
Star Wars Outlaws director Julian Gerighty spoke with IGN about the game, revealing that players will spend “a lot of time” at Jabba’s palace, as they’ll be able to work for the gangster. Not only that, but players will even be able to betray Jabba, though the outlet notes that that choice has “its own set of consequences.”
“If you close your eyes and give people a choice to go anywhere in Tatooine? Mos Eisley,” Gerighty told IGN. “And specifically one watering hole in Mos Eisley. The opportunity is that you can see all the nooks and crannies. You can see all the things that are informed by the Lucasfilm archives … This concept of virtual tourism is important to us. If you’ve ever wondered the distances from the moisture farms to the cantina? We have an experience for you.”
“Experience the first-ever open world Star Wars game, set between the events of The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi,” reads the game’s official description. “Explore distinct planets across the galaxy, both iconic and new. Risk it all as Kay Vess, a scoundrel seeking freedom and the means to start a new life, along with her companion Nix. Fight, steal, and outwit your way through the galaxy’s crime syndicates as you join the galaxy’s most wanted. If you’re willing to take the risk, the galaxy is full of opportunity.”
Star Wars Outlaws is being developed by Massive Entertainment and is set to release on the PlayStation 5, Xbox Series X/S, and PC in 2024. It is a single-player open world action-adventure game that lets players assume the role of outlaw scoundrel Kay Vess as they explore the Star Wars universe.
