Final Fantasy 7 Rebirth has only just launched, but many will already be racing towards the ending to find out how it's been reimagined for this remake trilogy. This is something that Rebirth's director, Naoki Hamaguchi, is all too aware of, having long decided that the big, shocking death from the original game would be the perfect way to end Rebirth.

Now, Hamaguchi says that the ending isn't straightforward, and expects fans to have different interpretations of what happens. He adds that this should spark a "healthy debate" amongst fans, as they try to figure out exactly how Rebirth ends and predict where the next game will take us.
"We anticipate having various conjectures about this ending and many different interpretations from players as this game is released, which will create some healthy debate," says Hamaguchi, speaking in an interview with Variety. "I will also be observing the players’ responses, which will allow us to perhaps feed those into, you know, as we look to create the third title as well."
Hamaguchi isn't giving the game away just yet, but he does hint in the interview that Cid and Vincent will be made playable in the sequel, if not a DLC for Rebirth. This was to be expected, but some will still be disappointed that the pair aren't playable in Rebirth's base game. At the very least, we do have some newcomers: Yuffie, Cait Sith, and Red XIII. The latter looks absolutely hilarious riding a chocobo, by the way.
We still don't know what the next chapter in this saga will be called, or when we can expect to play it.
