Final Fantasy 16 producer Naoki Yoshida has conducted numerous interviews, revealing tons of new info about the hotly-anticipated title. For example, it’s been confirmed that Final Fantasy 16 does not feature an open world, instead electing to feature “large zones.” The game will also take Clive through various stages of his life, including his teens, twenties, and thirties—in what should be an epic tale consuming his entire life.
Perhaps one of the most interesting reveals is about parties. Recent trailers have focused on Clive and his combat, leading many to think that Final Fantasy 16 wouldn’t feature a party system at all. Yoshida wouldn’t spill the entire beans, but speaking with IGN, it seems the answer is that FF16 does feature a party system but not like past FF games.
Final Fantasy 16 Confirms Clive and Ifrit Theory
Past games traditionally depict a group accompanying the main character for most of the game.Final Fantasy 15’s Noctis had Gladio, Ignis, and Prompto, while Final Fantasy 13’s Lightning had a whole group who came together. Yoshida did confirm that Final Fantasy 16 will feature party mechanics in some form, but also stated “for most of his journey, Clive will be accompanied by one or more companions.” In other words, it seems the party system has been scaled back and may depend on the period of his life/the game’s story.
It doesn’t seem to be a consistent party, instead one of convenience, which makes sense given Clive’s pursuit of vengeance in Final Fantasy 16. They will participate in battle too, but they will be entire AI-drive, meaning the player only has to focus on Clive.
