The 1999 David Fincher movie Fight Club, which starred Brad Pitt and Edward Norton, returned to headlines recently after it came to light that the nihilistic classic had been altered in China. It turned out Fight Club's ending had been changed so that instead of the original's high-rise explosions, which were coordinated to destroy credit companies, Chinese viewers were treated to a curt message that Tyler Durden was in fact arrested.
Screen-caps of the altered ending circulated widely on social media, with the translated epilogue reading: "The police rapidly figured out the whole plan and arrested all criminals, successfully preventing the bomb from exploding. After the trial, Tyler was sent to lunatic asylum [sic] receiving psychological treatment. He was discharged from the hospital in 2012."

But now it turns out that this censored Fight Club - which was showing on Tencent's streaming service Tencent Video - has now been replaced with a version that restores the original ending, according to a report by The South China Morning Post.
The censored version resulted in a widespread backlash in China, with many online film fans expressing their displeasure at this blatant change to the original movie. The restored film now has only about a minute cut, compared to the 12 minutes that was cut in the doctored version. However, like many movies in China, the new cut has censored some scenes that contain nudity.
