Today’s Nintendo Indie World event presented plenty of gorgeous titles for the Switch. One standout is Inkle’s A Highland Song which attempts to capture the feeling of exploring the wild and wide Scottish mountains.
According to creative director Joseph Humphrey and lead level designer Nat Clayton, their own experiences adventuring through nature influenced the game. As they explain, the Scotlands wilderness is exceptionally beautiful, but it is also a dangerous place that can take you by surprise if you aren’t prepared.
Inkle has tried to capture this in A Highland Song which features both tranquil and treacherous landscapes. You’ll have to tackle difficult climbs and fast-paced rhythm runs to survive the often unforgiving outdoors. It features an art style too adorable to not fall in love with, and the trailer reveals that you’ll be treated to several breathtaking scenes of the natural environment.
How you explore your environment will dictate how the story plays out. We don’t know much about the story yet, except that the heroine is on a quest to go to the sea by Beltane. As you unravel the tale, you’ll be serenaded with relaxing Scottish folk music to ensure your journey is unforgettable.
The game launches on December 5 this year, and pre-orders begin today. If you’re looking for something relaxing yet captivating, A Highland Song seems like it might be worth a peek.
