They have an aura active all of the time. Supports give players an occasional jolt every so often, but leaders deliver their benefit without cooldowns.

But most players won't recognize that the leader in Evil Dead: The Game is actually so skilled because… they aren't. Without a good build, the leader is just another survivor, killing deadites no better than an AI. Forget that. Use a superior build and get recognized for these contributions.
One leader gives a damage bonus aura to melee weapons. Another gives a damage bonus to ranged weapons. The best leader gives a damage bonus to all damage. If that's not enough, this aura also cuts down on fear gains, nearly eliminating it as an issue for the entire team.

This aura already the statistical best aura, gets even stronger when Ash performs finishers, so prepare to engage in a good amount of melee combat. The active skill for Ash will deal damage and stagger enemies, useful when getting overwhelmed
Since Ash has the best aura in the game, there is little reason not to invest all the eggs into that basket. The stronger that aura is, the stronger the entire team is, and that is better than any individual skill. Go for the increases to aura, aura strength, and lasting aura for teammates that wander a bit too far.
