A fan poster for Evil Dead Riseshows a hoard of deadites swarming an elevator. The Evil Dead franchise is one of Sam Raimi’s most well-known properties, which introduced moviegoers to Ash Williams (Bruce Campbell) in 1981. Evil Dead 2 and Army of Darkness would follow in 1987 and 1992 before Raimi left fans craving for a fourth Evil Dead film for years. While a true Evil Dead 4 never came to be, the franchise would return in 2013 with Fede Alvarez’s reboot and Campbell made a triumphant return in Ash vs. Evil Dead a few years later.
Campbell has since retired as Ash Williams, but the Evil Dead franchise isn’t over yet. The next movie is titled Evil Dead Rise and will be directed by Lee Cronin, with Bruce Campbell and Raimi attached as executive producers. The story revolves around an entirely new group of characters, mainly two estranged sisters named Beth and Ellie, who become stuck in an LA high-rise after the Necronomicon (Book of the Dead) is found in their building. Evil Dead Rise is Rated R and is coming straight to HBO Max at some point this year.
