One of the big questions surrounding the Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection announcement back in February was whether or not the games could adequately translate a game devised for two-screen devices into a single-screen experience. It’s not impossible, as we saw with Pocket Card Jockey: Ride On! earlier this year. Now, we have an idea of what the game will look like when it launches in a few weeks for Nintendo Switch and PC.
Yesterday, Atlus dropped a new trailer for the HD remasters that includes a detailed look at how dungeon mapping will work, as well as building your squad and battling monsters.
As much as I like these games and as much fun as I know I’ll have with them, I just don’t know if the stars will align for me this year to actually play them. Etrian Odyssey games are a huge timesink, and getting three at once would basically take up two months’ worth of free time for me. Also, there is a non-zero chance I won’t still be playing The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom by the time these games roll out.
Still, I just may have to pick them up and keep ’em on hand for when I do have the time…like when I’m 80.
Etrian Odyssey Origins Collection will launch for Nintendo Switch and PC on June 1. Each game will retail for $39.99, or you can buy the three together for $79.99. Preorders are open, and if you do buy early, you can unlock Atlus-themed character portraits for each of the games, including Aigis from Persona 3 Portable, Nahobino from Shin Megami Tensei V, and Joker from Persona 5 Royal.
