We're all waiting on a release date for Shadow of the Erdtree, the big expansion for Elden Ring that was first announced back in February. But just how far away is this DLC? Well, as spotted by @Ziostrom1 on Twitter, Shadow of the Erdtree has seemingly been in development for at least a year.
According to the FromSoftware director and producer Kenneth (Kin Yue) Chan's Linkedin profile — which has recently been updated — work on the upcoming expansion started in April 2022. That's around just two months after Elden Ring released.
This timeline suggests that Shadow of the Erdtree might not be too far off — but it obviously all depends on the scope of the DLC. Given the size of the base game, it's fair to say that we're all expecting an especially meaty expansion.
We're yet to actually see the DLC in action, but that's probably set to change over the next few months. We wouldn't be at all surprised to see Shadow of the Erdtree put in a major appearance during Summer Game Fest, for example. If we're lucky, we'll get a launch date as well.
