We still don't have a release date for Elden Ring's DLC, Shadow of the Erdtree, and it's possible we won't get one anytime soon. That's at least according to a financial report from FromSoftware's parent company, Kadokawa, which says that Shadow of the Erdtree is still in the works, but it doesn't have a release date it can share with us "at this time".
This was spotted by Eurogamer, who notes that Shaodw of the Erdtree is described as a "major DLC". In the report, Kadokawa also says that FromSoft is still "working hard" on the DLC, perhaps implying that it won't launch as soon as fans have hoped.
"We are currently working hard on the development of DLC for Elden Ring but we have not announced a release date at this time," reads a note in the FAQ section of the financial report.
However, this might not be the only update Elden Ring gets this year. Also in the financial report, it's stated that the DLC is just one of the "various measures" that are "currently in progress" for the game. It's not clear what that entails, but it seems like Kadokawa is keen to capitalise on the long-awaited launch of Shadow of the Erdtree.
After such a long wait, Elden Ring fans really, really hope that Shadow of the Erdtree is a challenge . Because the base game wasn't hard enough for some of you, apparently.
But first, Shadow of the Erdtree will need to launch. Many fans had been gearing up for a surprise launch this month, coinciding with Elden Ring's second anniversary. This was backed up by an update to the Elden Ring Steam page, revealing that a new DLC is in the "quality assessment" stage of development. It's not clear how long it will stay in this phase, and FromSoft isn't giving us any more information that would clear things up.
