Dragon's Dogma 2 is roughly a month away from release, and while all the trailer, previews, and gameplay footage we've seen so far is leading us all to believe we'll get an excellent sequel, one question has been on the minds of fans for a couple of weeks. It was claimed last month that Dragon's Dogma 2 would be capped at 30fps on consoles, something which immediately disappointed fans that have been used to 60fps gaming on consoles so far this generation.
At the time, it seemed as though those claims had no real weight behind them, and a new trailer from PlayStation earlier this month seemingly showcasing 60fps gameplay had fans hoping the report was bogus. After a bit of a wait, Dragon's Dogma 2 director Hideaki Itsuno has finally put fans out of their misery and has confirmed that the game won't be locked to 30fps as rumored.
Itsuno revealed this news via his personal Twitter account on Tuesday, simply stating that Dragon's Dogma 2 will "release with an uncapped frame rate". That was pretty much expected for the game's PC release, but when asked by a fan whether it would also have an uncapped frame rate on consoles too, Itsuno simply liked their tweet in response. Feels like a confirmation if ever there was one.
That will be music to the ears of Dragon's Dogma fans playing the sequel on either PS5 or Xbox Series X, but it does also seem like Capcom is still going ahead with its disappointing save system. It was revealed in the same report as the frame rate cap rumor that Dragon's Dogma 2 will only have a singular save slot, which will also be overwritten by autosaves. It makes playing several characters at a time an impossibility, and could also mean you lose progress if you accidentally stumble across a powerful enemy.
Still, if a dodgy save system is the biggest thing to complain about, then I think fans will have a pretty terrific game on their hands. If you need a reminder, Dragon's Dogma 2 release later this year on March 22 for PC, PS5, and Xbox Series X.
