One of the first big story decisions players will come up against in will have a massive impact on two close companions. As the cities of Minrathous and Treviso both simultaneously come under attack from Elven God-controlled blighted dragons, players will need to decide which they'll be running to defend. This decision is one with consequences though, as both Neve and Lucaris will plead for the player's help to defend their hometowns — and one won't be happy not to be chosen.
Taking place right after players have recruited Davrin the Grey Warden, there's no opportunity to return to their safe respite of The Lighthouse to take a moment out of the fight. Instead, this choice will come as a bit of an ambush that will need to be decided on the spot, making it all the more important to really consider the options at hand. With so much riding on such an early decision in , players will want to really consider the consequences of their actions and how it might change the game down the line.
As expected,if players choose to save Treviso from the dragon attack, then Minrathous will be seriously destroyed. Neve will, of course, find this incredibly difficult to deal with, leaving the party to help her friends in the city and temporarily removing her as a party member until she eventually returns after players recruit the final companions. Many of Neve's allies in the Shadow Dragons will also be badly injured, and the Venatori presence in the city will increase.
Players will find that their relationship with Neve is going to be damaged as a repercussion, making her «hardened» by the experience. Relationship progress will be slower, and she'll be much more distant as a character when first returning to The Lighthouse. Neve will also drastically change in combat in , with some increased damage buffs at certain passive skill nodes but no longer able to use the Replenish healing skill at all or certain support upgrades to other abilities.
