BioWare has discussed how players will be able to tailor Dragon Age: The Veilguard’s difficulty settings when the game’s released later this year.
Players will be able to choose between several difficulty levels, or playstyles, as BioWare calls them, before starting a playthrough.
“Storyteller” is for players who want to prioritise story over combat, “Adventurer” appears to be the setting for those who want a balanced story and combat experience, while “Nightmare” was the toughest of the three options available during a recent demo shown to Game Informer.
Players can reportedly change the difficulty setting at any time while playing unless Nightmare has been selected, as that’s a permanent choice.
Another difficulty option called “Unbound” lets players customise their gameplay experience by making adjustments to how wayfinding and combat timing work. There’s aim assistance and an auto-aim option, players can choose how much damage they wield and take from enemies, and there’s a no-death option too.
“[None of these options] are a cheat,” game director Corinne Busche told Game Informer. “It’s an option to make sure players of all abilities can show up.”
Publisher EA announced last month that Dragon Age: The Veilguard will be released this fall / autumn.
The release window was confirmed alongside a new trailer for the game, which premiered during the Xbox Games Showcase.
