It is possible to change builds and respec Rook for free while playing , meaning players can experiment with various skills and passive abilities to find what they like. Combat in works somewhat differently from the other games in the series, leaning more into contemporary action RPG elements like dodging and parrying and issuing commands to companions like in. Players can still choose to make their rook a Warrior, Rogue, or Mage, and they will have access to three unique specializations for each class.
Though it is not possible to change classes in once players select one during character creation, it is always possible to change specializations and skills and give Rook a new build at any point during gameplay. As players learn which companions they enjoy bringing along and which skills they enjoy using in combat, they can prioritize active abilities that synergize with party members to create strong combinations that will help as they progress through the main story and face more difficult enemies.
Skills in are purchased via the Skill Tree using Skill Points. Rook will earn one Skill Point every time they earn enough XP and level up all the way to the level cap of 50. They can earn additional Skill Points by finding certain collectibles around Thedas, including the Wolf Statuettes at the Fen'Harel Altars.
While HP is arguably one of the most important stats for RPGs, increasing your health in Dragon Age: The Veilguard isn't as simple as leveling up.
Every Skill Tree for every class includes Abilities, denoted by a diamond shape, Major Passives or Ability Upgrades, denoted by a medium circle, Traits, denoted by a hexagon, and Minor Passives or Stat Boosts, denoted by a small circle. Any of these skills can be refunded individually or all at once.
To refund all Skill Points in, open the Skills Menu and select the Refund Points button at the bottom left side of the screen. A popup will appear asking you to confirm your decision to refund all of Rook's Skill
