America Chavez will have a lot to teach Stephen Strange in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness. The Master of the Mystic Arts have always known the multiverse exists. After all, in the MCU sorcerers conduct magic by drawing energy from other dimensions, using it to reshape reality on this plane of existence. But, for all the Ancient One taught her students to tap into multiversal magic, in reality, their role has simply been to prevent incursions into this dimension.
The multiverse lies at the heart of the MCU's Phase 4. Doctor Strange himself broke the barriers between dimensions in Spider-Man: No Way Home, with an ill-considered memory spell backfiring and drawing beings from other timelines into the mainstream MCU. But the multiverse looks set to be fragmenting in Doctor Strange in the Multiverse of Madness, although as yet it's unclear just who is really behind the catastrophe. Fortunately Stephen Strange will have unexpected help in the form of Xochitl Gomez’s America Chavez.

In an interview with Empire Magazine, director Sam Raimi hinted at America Chavez's role as Doctor Strange's teacher. "Strange is still learning about the multiverse," he pointed out. "And here's a character that can actually travel through it. He's such a know-it-all all the time, and to have to learn from a kid probably smarts." By now, Strange considers himself a seasoned superhero, and in Spider-Man: No Way Home he even hinted he believes he should be the Sorcerer Supreme. No doubt the dynamic between America Chavez and Doctor Strange will be an amusing one, with Strange resenting the fact a teenager knows so much more about the multiverse than he does.
