Warning: spoilers ahead for Strange #1!
Of all the battles Doctor Strange has fought, his most badass is one nobody knows about. In Strange #1, on sale now in print and digital, Clea, who recently ascended to the role of Sorcerer Supreme, reminds fans that the late Doctor Strange liked to play the long game, fighting a battle that none knew of—for over 5,000 years.
The last year has been perhaps the most eventful in Doctor Strange’s almost 60-year history. Kaecilius, one of Doctor Strange’s greatest foes, was successful in killing the Sorcerer Supreme. However, Kaecilius did not bank on Strange having a backup in the form of a clone of his younger self, brought to the present to solve his own murder. After justice was served, the real Doctor Strange died once again, passing on the Eye of Agamatto and the Cloak of Levitation to his ex-wife Clea. Clea now soldiers on as Earth’s Sorcerer Supreme, all the while hoping to resurrect her ex-lover. However, not everyone is happy with Clea’s new position, including Doctor Doom (a perennial candidate for Sorcerer Supreme) who pays a call on her, leading to a stunning revelation about Doctor Strange. Strange #1 is written by Jed MacKay, illustrated by Marcelo Ferreira, inked by Don Ho and Roberto Poggi, colored by Java Tartaglia and Felipe Sobreiro and lettered by Cory Petit.
