Thousands of Destiny players are currently unable to access either game in Bungie's popular looter-shooter franchise. The problems with the Destiny servers started the morning of Saturday, January 22, and seem to be impacting both the original Destiny game as well as Destiny 2. Bungie is aware of the issues and working on a fix, but has not provided a timetable for when fans will be able to access the servers again.
In our own testing on Xbox Series X, we were unable to maintain a solid connection to the Destiny servers. The game allowed us to select our Destiny 2 Guardian, but when attempting to travel to areas like the Tower or anywhere else, we were met with an error about how the game is trying to contact the Destiny 2 servers. We were then met with another error message explaining that we were being returned to orbit. The message included a note about checking our own networking setup, but before anyone starts resetting their routers, this is clearly a problem on Bungie's end.

The Destiny servers being down right now may be especially frustrating for fans who are hoping to use this weekend to finish up what they need to accomplish on The Tangled Shore before The Witch Queen expansion drops. There's still about a month to go, but when The Witch Queen launches on February 22, Tangled Shore content and the Forsaken campaign will be tossed in the Vault, no longer accessible to fans of the game.
We will update this post once the Destiny servers have been restored.
Destiny 2 is available now for PC, PS4, PS5, Stadia, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X.
