Death end re;Quest 2 is the part Visual Novel, part JRPG Dungeon Crawler follow up to Compile Heart’s 2018 cult classic. Originally released on the PS4, the game has been given a new lease of life on the Nintendo Switch. Portable fans everywhere can finally experience all the cutesy, depression-riddled charms the game has in droves.

For new players jumping in, getting to grips with the myriad systems, mechanics, and unique nuggets can be a bit overwhelming. From combat, to menus, to navigation, this beginner's guide will keep you right whilst you figure out the strange happenings around Le Choara.
Death end re;Quest 2 is split into two distinct sections. These are daytime nattering and nighttime wandering. Mechanically, this is shown as the game encompassing two different genres. By day, Death end re;Quest 2 is a Visual Novel with some light decision-making thrown in to spice things up. By night, the game is a full-on JRPG Dungeon Crawler - with a twist.
How much talking you do is down to you. If you want to experience every subplot and side character, then clicking through the menu-based segments during the day and absorbing the trope-filled glee of Wordsworth will allow you to do this. If you are all in on the action, then skipping each day and jumping into Le Choara is just as viable.
Whilst you are always given the choice to ignore people during the day, the plot is much harder - if not impossible - to ignore at night. Once you have completed a few excursions, the game will start throwing conundrums your way.
