Skyrim: Bleak Falls Barrow Quest Walkthrough

To accept this quest, speak with Balgruuf the Greater, who is the current Jarl of Whiterun; you can find him within Dragonsreach. Upon speaking with the Jarl, he will tell you to meet with Farengar Secret-Fire, the court wizard.
This quest is very closely related to The Golden Claw quest, which requires you to visit Bleak Falls Barrow as well. You can complete these quests at the same time. If you have already finished the Golden Claw, you may have the item needed for the Bleak Falls Barrow quest. In this case, you will just need to talk with Farengar again.
As you speak with Farengar, he will tell you about the Dragonstone, which can be found in an ancient Nordic tomb. He will not provide any additional information, so you will need to venture here yourself.
