DeLorean's Alpha 5 electric car is just as stylish as Tesla's Roadster but not nearly as powerful. While the new EV is not yet available and hasn't been formally announced, the manufacturer has shared several details in a preview. There's no denying that this will be an eye-catching vehicle even before the brand name is spotted. It faces stiff competition, however, from Tesla's next-generation Roadster.
The original DeLorean was immortalized in the film Back to the Future trilogy, serving as the time-travel device that the story centered around. As such, it's forever emblazoned in the minds of anyone that sees the fun and lighthearted movies that were hugely popular. This sort of advertising win would have been worth a small fortune. However, the DeLorean Motor Company went bankrupt in 1982, three years before the first movie was released. The new DeLorean is an entirely different entity that acquired the DMC and DeLorean Motor Company trademarks.

DeLorean gave an early preview of its Alpha 5 electric car a day before the official announcement, which is scheduled for May 31, 2022. Several photos appear, showcasing its long and lean styling with gull-wing doors and louvered design on the rear glass that calls back to the original design. However, the finish is painted on rather than the iconic stainless steel of the classic model. It looks striking and compares favorably to the 2023 Tesla Roadster's sleek lines. Either will turn heads, but Tesla's design has a sportier look that carries through to the performance as well.
