Stranger Things season 4 returns to Hawkins Lab with flashbacks of Eleven’s other «siblings,» which created an odd plot hole regarding the powers of Kali, aka Eight. The psychokinetic and telepathic abilities of Eleven have been well-explored throughout Stranger Things’ Upside Down battles. Those powers were revealed to have been cultivated and trained throughout her isolated childhood in Hawkins Lab. However, Eleven wasn’t the only kid whose powers were being tested by Dr. Brenner, with flashbacks revealing that Hawkins Lab was once home to at least 17 children of similar abilities.
Eleven’s memories of Hawkins Lab in Stranger Things season 4 explore what her childhood was like when all of her siblings were still alive, which saw Eleven become the subject of taunts and violence by the older kids. The traumatic flashbacks culminate in revealing that Number One/Henry Creel had slaughtered everyone in Hawkins Lab aside from Brenner and Eleven, a memory she had repressed for the past seven years. All but one of Eleven’s powerful siblings were murdered by the man who would become Vecna, as Stranger Things season 2 revealed that Kali, aka Eight, had successfully escaped the lab prior to the massacre.

When Kali and Eleven first reunited in Stranger Things season 2, both came to the surprising realization that they had vastly different abilities. While Eleven could find people in her mind and move objects with her telekinetic abilities, Kali could make others see illusions in order to terrify or distract her foes.
