While the name Cain Marko has become synonymous with the Juggernaut, it was revealed some time ago within the pages of Marvel Comics that his brother, Professor X, was the desired avatar for the demon god Cyttorak–and now fans finally know why.
Cain Marko became the Juggernaut after stumbling upon an ancient temple while serving in the United States military alongside his brother, Charles Xavier, in Korea during the Korean War. While inside the temple, which would later be revealed as the Temple of Cyttorak, Marko and Xavier discover a mystical gem. While Xavier quickly leaves the unholy place, Marko touches the mysterious artifact sparking the essence of Cyttorak to come before him and tell Marko that he’d make him invincible if he agreed to spread glorious chaos in Cyttorak’s name. Marko agreed and in doing so became the Unstoppable Juggernaut. However, in New Excalibur #15 by Frank Tieri and Jim Calafiore, Cyttorak reveals to Marko that Xavier was the god’s intended target for the role of his Juggernaut claiming that his incredibly powerful telepathy made him the perfect candidate. However, new information has come to light that offers a much more clear explanation for why Cyttorak would want Charles over Cain.
