Danny DeVito has revealed in a recent interview that he'd be up for playing the role of Wario in a future Super Mario Bros. Movie project, something that fans have been wanting ever since the movie was first announced.
Like every major event in history, we all remember where we were the day that The Super Mario Bros. Movie cast was announced. It all seemed far too strange to be true and doomed to fail with its weirdly star-stuffed cast for a bunch of characters who usually only spout catchphrases, but after grossing more than a billion dollars, it's clear that Nintendo knew what it was doing all along.
Now that Nintendo and Illumination have revealed that a sequel to the Super Mario Bros. Movie is in development and releasing in 2026, it's time to start thinking about what new characters could show up, and who could possibly play them. While none of us guessed that Chris Pratt would make for a good Mario, there's one actor that everyone has already unanimously agreed should play Wario - Danny DeVito.
From the moment Nintendo revealed the voice cast for the first Super Mario Bros. Movie, much everyone has agreed that if Wario were to ever make it into a sequel or spin-off, then Danny DeVito is the man for the job. You can pretty much just imagine Wario being like a PG version of Frank Reynolds, and you're golden.
Earlier this week, Danny DeVito took part in an interview with YouTuber The Movie Dweeb to talk about his role in the movie Poolman. The Movie Dweeb took the chance to tell DeVito how much fans want him to play Wario in The Super Mario Bros. Movie sequel, which DeVito replied to with some enthusiasm.
"You never know what happens in the world, I'm up for a lot of things, I'm ready to do a lot of things. So, whatever's coming, you know I look at, I see, I evaluate... let them know, you should tell them that I'm going to take them to the cleaners, but that I should be in the movie."
