Fans are reporting that the free next gen update for Cyberpunk 2077 doesn’t work for many disc owners, as the PC crash bug gets a fix.
CD Projekt no doubt hoped that the release of the next gen console updates for Cyberpunk 2077 would finally start to turn around the narrative on the troubled game, but days after the patch’s release and the reports of problems are only increasing.
The most common issue, as reported by one of our readers in today’s Inbox, is that the update doesn’t always work with disc copies of the game, which may be a different region to the one your PlayStation account is tied to.
This seems to be happening primarily with the PlayStation 4 version in Europe, although it’s not clear why the wrong regional versions were distributed in the first place. The support forums on CD Projekt’s website acknowledges the issue but so far there is no known fix for it.

The support forums also detail a separate problem with the PC version of the update, where the game crashes because of conflict with a range of audio drivers, including A-Volute, Nahimic, and Sonic Studio.
CD Projekt advise disabling the drivers before starting the game and following the details described in this link, although whether that means you’d be playing with no sound isn’t clear.
This is all the exact opposite of what CD Projekt would’ve wanted but they have at least offered to try and implement some fan suggested features, including transferring PlayStation Trophies from the PlayStation 4 to 5 and raising the frame rate
