Elecrow is offering to turn your Raspberry Pi 4 into a laptop for a little over $200.
Raspberry Pi laptop kits have been around for years, with Elecrow previously offering the CrowPi and more recently the CrowPi2 laptop kits via crowdfunding. As Liliputing reports(Opens in a new window), now we're being offered the CrowPi L without a crowdfunding campaign attached.
The "L" in the name stands for "Light," which is reflected in the features and the price of the CrowPi L. It uses an 11.6-inch display with a 768p resolution and includes a 5,000mAh battery, 2MP webcam, speakers, a headphone jack, and a cooling fan. Once a Raspberry Pi 4 has been connected inside it can be used as normal, controlled via the laptop keyboard and touchpad. The battery offers three hours of life on a full charge, which should be long enough for any study session.
Education is a key selling point of this laptop kit, with Elecrow bundling 96 programming courses on Python and basic game development. The CrowPi L Basic Kit includes everything you need for a usable laptop and its price is currently discounted to $203.15(Opens in a new window) (ships June 30). However, there's also the option of an Advanced Kit, which adds $51 to the price. In return for the extra cash, Elecrow includes an electronics starter kit and a base shield, so you can learn about hardware and software development.
If you don't already have a Raspberry Pi 4, Elecrow allows you to add one as part of the order, but they cost $150. I think we can thank the supply chain problems coupled with demand for the high price. And if that 768p display simply isn't good enough, you could always opt to buy a CrowPi2 instead(Opens in a new window), which costs $316 and includes a 1080p
