Commandos: Origins brings the tactical series back for its very first mission

With a name like Commandos: Origins, it might sound like this game is going to take us back to when the characters from the original games were all in secondary school and military training, but that’s not quite what they have planned. This is still an origin story, but it’s for how the Commandos were united on their first set of missions, with Green Beret, Sapper and the rest of the gang going from the Arctic to Africa through “more than” 10 missions.

It’s coming up on two decades since the series’ heyday in the late 1990s and early 2000s, but it’s always been considered a cult classic, with tough as nails missions and plenty of tactical shenanigans to get up to. Interest has been rekindled in recent times thanks to HD remasters and console ports of Commandos 2 and Commandos 3 in 2020 and 2022 respectively.
With original studio Pyro having long faded from memory, its new IP owner Kalypso Media that commissioned the HD remasters by Raylight Games. They’re changing things up for this effective series reboot, with Claymore Game Studios the developer.
