Chris Hemsworth confirms filming is underway on George Miller's Mad Max prequel movie, Furiosa. Several years after making a trilogy of movies with Mel Gibson as Max, George Miller delivered a huge hit with Mad Max: Fury Road in 2015. The film starred Tom Hardy as Max and introduced audiences to Charlize Theron's Furiosa, as the two occupied most of the screen throughout the thrilling adventure. Mad Max: Fury Road's success paved the way for George Miller to continue the franchise and develop plans for a prequel following Furiosa after becoming such a standout character.
Development on Furiosa really picked up in 2020 once it was announced that Anya Taylor-Joy would play the younger Imperator Furiosa and bring Charlize Theron's character to life once more. It was later revealed that Chris Hemsworth was joining the Mad Max prequel movie too. Future reports indicated that he's meant to play Furiosa's villain. While Yahya Abdul-Mateen II was also part of the cast at one point, he had to drop out due to scheduling conflicts and was replaced by Tom Burke. Much like Mad Max: Fury Road's troubled production, though, filming has been repeatedly delayed for the highly anticipated prequel.

Now, Hemsworth has confirmed that Furiosa is officially filming. He shared an image of the movie's clapper on social media as production begins in Australia. So far, Hemsworth is the only star who has acknowledged the start of filming, but Anya Taylor-Joy and George Miller, along with Warner Bros., could celebrate the beginning of this journey next. This comes almost two years to the day before Furiosa is slated to be released in theaters on May 24, 2024.
