Chris Hemsworth has discussed 2022's Thor: Love and Thunder, saying the film makes him cringe now looking back on it. But he cringes and he laughs at it in equal measure, he said.
«I cringe and laugh equally at it,» he told GQ. «I think we just had too much fun. It just became too silly. It's always hard being in the centre of it and having any real perspective… I love the process, it's always a ride. But you just don't know how people are going to respond.»
Hemsworth said some of the critiques he's heard of Love and Thunder is that it was too comedic and that the action was good but the visual effects were too much.
Hemsworth has talked about potentially retiring as Thor, but in the interview with GQ he said he could be convinced to make a fifth Thor movie «if there is something new» to offer creatively. But for now, Hemsworth said he really wants to do «some other stuff for a while.»
Hemsworth made his debut as Thor in 2011's Thor, going on to reprise the character in three sequels. He also appeared as the God of Thunder in the Avengers movies.
Reflecting on his time as Thor, Hemsworth said he has enjoyed the experience of making those movies over the years and specifically how each one has felt «fairly different.» Indeed, the first two Thor movies had a more serious tone before director Taika Waititi came aboard for Thor: Ragnarok and Love and Thunder and dialed up the humor.
Love and Thunder contained a number of humorous sequences and recurring jokes, like the Taylor Swift-inspired screaming goats.
Hemsworth's next movie is Extraction 2, which releases June 9 on Netflix.
