The Division 2 kicked off its Year 5 content roadmap last month, bringing with it a new PvE roguelite mode called Descent, and given how hard it can be to hit level cap in the mode, a number of players hae resorted to exploiting a bug that enables a player to join another player that’s already in the middle of a run and gain extra XP and SHD levels.
Developer Massive Entertainment has now issued a statement concerning this exploit, and it seems like it’s taking some pretty stern actions against those who’ve used it.
“We take these issues very seriously and are comitted to maintaining a fair and enjoyable gaming environment for all players,” the developer says. “We have thoroughly investigated the situation and identified individuals who have systematically used the exploits.”
Massive will be “imposing appropriate sactions” on players who’ve exploited the bug, with first-time offenders receiving two-week suspensions. “Sanctioned” accounts will also be flagged, with further offences increasing the duration of future suspensions. Massive says it will also be slapping accounts with multiple offences with permanent bans. Players who’ve gained progression through the exploit will also be having their accounts rolled back to reset any such progress.
“We believe it is crucial to ensure that everyone has an equal opportunity to succeed and compete on a level playing field,” Massive writes.
