The first clip from Netflix's original movie Spiderhead has Chris Hemsworth experimenting on Miles Teller. Spiderhead is based on the short story by George Saunders, originally published in 2010 in The New Yorker. It follows a brilliant visionary (Hemsworth) who runs a correctional facility that shortens inmates sentences by allowing them to participate in mind-altering drug trials. However, the experiments start to go too far, causing subjects to react in violent, sexual, and deviant ways. Eventually, this leads one of the inmates, Jeff (Teller), attempting to outsmart the experiments and help save fellow inmate, Lizzy (Jurnee Smollett).
Spiderhead is directed by Top Gun: Maverick's Joseph Kosinski from a script by Deadpool's Rheet Reese and Paul Wernick. The film's star-studded ensemble cast includes Hemsworth, Teller, and Smollett, as well as Charles Parnell, Tess Haubrich, Nathan Jones, and BeBe Bettencourt. Since Kosinski's Maverick has just released to massive critical acclaim and broken several box office records, this puts the director's two recent feature projects at just a month apart. While this is a rarity for most filmmakers, is certainly bodes well for Spiderhead's potential audience, as both the star power of Hemsworth and Teller, and Top Gun 2's huge success, is likely to draw in viewers.
