It's Children's Week, aka Pet Collecting Week in some circles. This year, most of the kids have been given ponies (or other appropriate mount) so you no longer need to feel bad about making them sprint behind you when you ride.
Also, 550 points can be earned towards the Trading Post for completing Children's Week activities. If you have not yet completed What a Long, Strange Trip It's Been for the Reins of the Violet Proto-Drake, now is a good time to knock out For the Children towards that.
