Disney Media and Entertainment Distribution chairman Kareem Daniel announced on Friday, April 8, that the reality series would no longer air on ABC. Instead, the dance show will officially air on Disney+ for seasons 31 and 32, as Kareem confirmed, «The show's broad appeal, as well as the overwhelming popularity of its Disney-themed competition nights, make Disney+ the perfect home for Dancing with the Stars while continuing to expand our demographic reach.»
Dana Walden, the Walt Disney Chairman of Entertainment, also addressed the new development. She explained how it would be good to introduce the show to a whole new generation of fans on Disney+ as the network is expanding its unscripted slate at ABC. The announcement has gotten different reactions from viewers, contestants, and other bodies on the hit show. Judge Carrie Ann Inaba seemed particularly excited about the move. She gushed over the change, writing on social media that it was nice that the show would be the first live-streaming competition show in the United States and would be live on Disney+.
