Idris Elba is heading to Apple TV+ as the platform picks up the new seven-part thriller series Hijack. Elba is most notably known for his television roles as Stringer Bell in HBO's The Wire and DCI John Luther in the BBC One detective series Luther. The renowned actor also makes appearances in major motion pictures such as Ridley Scott's American Gangster and the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the guardian sentry of Asgard, Heimdall. Boasting an impressive catalog of work, Elba is now gearing up to showcase his acting chops in a new project.
In a recent press release from Apple TV+, the streaming platform announces it has picked up the new thriller series Hijack, starring Elba. In addition to leading the series on-screen, Elba will executive produce, establishingHijack as the inaugural project from his first-look agreement with Apple TV+ and his production company Green Door Pictures. Apple TV+ adds Hijack to its expanding catalog of thrillers, including the highly acclaimed Severance, which the streaming platform recently renewed.

Hijack will tell the tale of a London-bound hijacked plane in real-time. Elba, starring as experienced negotiator Sam Nelson, will use his expertise in the field to thwart the hijackers' plan and save those on board over the likely tense, dramatic, and thrilling seven-hour flight. At first glimpse, Hijack appears to be similar to Fox's real-time thriller 24. And while 24 was not the first series to incorporate the concept of real-time, the show certainly brought the idea to popularity upon its premiere. Only time will tell if Elba and Hijack can nail that element of the show, but hopefully, more information about it will be revealed
