Actor Idris Elba defends his character, Knuckles, from Sonic the Hedgehog 2, calling him a good guy. The smash hit film, based on the video game franchise of the same name, went on to break the record for the best video game movie opening ever, eventually garnering over $323 million worldwide. Although star Jim Carrey might retire from acting in the the near future, Sonic the Hedgehog 3 has already been announced, along with a Knuckles spinoff TV show.
Elba provided the voice of Knuckles, the red echidna warrior with two large fists who was recruited by Dr. Robotnik (Carrey) to stop Sonic and to find the Master Emerald, a crystal that has the power to provide an unlimited energy source for Robotnik's creations. Knuckles' extinct ancestors were once protectors of the Emerald, until the Owl clan hid it away. He last saw his father when he and his tribe set out to take the Emerald back from the last remaining Owl warrior, Longclaw, Sonic's adoptive mother. That day also proved the last time Sonic saw Longclaw.

In an interview with Cocoa Boy magazine (via Yahoo!), Elba defends Knuckles, calling him a good guy. When discussing his experience voicing the Sonic the Hedgehog 2 character, he explains that this version of Knuckles was an unknown, but still a strong warrior with a well-meaning purpose.
