Faster than you can say «Super Sonic», Sonic the Hedgehog 2 will be heading over to Paramount+ on May 24. It was hinted earlier this month it would only be six weeks in theaters before hitting streaming platforms, and this week the Sega news site SEGAbits confirmed it.

So far, Sonic 2 has earned almost $300M at the global box office, making it the top-grossing video game movie of all time, with some critical acclaim to boot. Here's our full review where we praised the elevated amount of humor and heart.
The film was packed with easter eggs and nods to the franchise, and word about a Sonic 3 can't be far behind. The first movie came out in 2020 right before the global pandemic and is one of the top movies people remember seeing before movie theaters closed down.
Sonic 2 has Ben Schwartz returning as the Blue Blur himself with James Marsden as Tom, his human friend with Jim Carrey returning as Dr. Robotnik, now sporting a look more on par with his video game counterpart. The movie also introduces Tails, the two-tailed fox, voiced by Colleen O'Shaughnessey, who has provided the voice of the character for years now, as Knuckles, voiced by Idris Elba, who was introduced all the way back in 1994 in Sonic 3 on the Sega Genesis.
